Bath Kaposvár Library to Library Link

Over the last year Bath and NE Somerset Library Service has been sending a regular bi-monthly report toKaposvar Library, highlighting specific library initiatives that have been happening. The reports convey information by using a number of photos with a small amount of text.

So far reports have covered information on:

  1. The Re-cycle an ex-library book project. This project encourages library users to take an old (ex stock) library book and give it new life by transforming it into an intriguing work of art.
  2. Our annual short story competition for adults which we carried out with partner organisation ‘A Word in Your ear’. The 2014 theme was ‘Noir’ and winning stories were read out at a vibrant ‘Story Fridays’ event.
  3. Chew Stoke Community Library which is an exciting initiative which is based in the skittle alley of a well-used village pub. Much of this work is in partnership with Age UK. Local residents are able to borrow books and take part in writing groups run by the library.
  4. ‘Quilt of Words’ project. This initiative encouraged people to recover and write down memories. These memories written on ‘quilt patch’ shaped paper are now being sewn into a large paper ‘quilt’. It involved Emily Langdon, a crafts expert from a partner organisation bringing her sewing machine into the library for a three day residency.

We are continuing to send these reports every two months and through them, Kaposvar Library is able to get a feel for some of the work that is going on within the Library Service in their twinned city of Bath.
